Long Crendon to Gatwick Airport Transfers | A2B Cars
Long Crendon ↔ Gatwick Airport (LGW) Transfers
A2B Cars is based in Long Crendon, and Gatwick is one of the longer airport journeys we regularly handle from the village.
The first part of the journey involves many of the same local decisions as a Heathrow run, but Gatwick adds a much longer section of the M25 beyond Heathrow. A journey that starts smoothly through Long Crendon and Thame can therefore change considerably later as traffic builds around the western and southern sections of the motorway.
We provide pre-booked private hire between Long Crendon and Gatwick Airport in both directions, with collection times planned around your flight, terminal, luggage and the road conditions expected at the time of travel.

____
How Long Does Long Crendon to Gatwick Take?
From our experience, Long Crendon to Gatwick normally takes around 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.
The journey is usually around 70 to 75 miles, depending on the exact collection address and route used.]
When the local roads, M40 and M25 are flowing well, the journey can sit close to the lower end of that range. During working hours, school-holiday periods or heavier traffic around the southern M25, considerably more time may be needed.
That is why we don’t plan a Gatwick departure around the quickest time displayed on a map.
The recommended pickup time needs to protect your flight against both the first few miles from Long Crendon and the much longer motorway section that follows.
____
Leaving Long Crendon for Gatwick
For many Gatwick journeys, the initial route takes us towards Thame.
School traffic, temporary roadworks or traffic controls on Thame Road can affect the beginning of the journey, while traffic around the roundabout by the Esso garage can build during the morning and afternoon rush.
From there, the route towards the M40 can vary.
One option runs across towards Postcombe and Lewknor, joining the M40 southbound at Junction 6.
Another continues on the Thame side, past the ASM roundabout and The Oxfordshire, before joining the M40 southbound at Junction 7.
There can be very little between the two when traffic is moving well, so the decision isn’t based on mileage alone. We also consider what is happening further down the M40 and towards the M25 before committing.
If travelling through Thame is particularly poor, an alternative through Chearsley, Cuddington, Haddenham and Princes Risborough can sometimes become more useful before reaching the M40 further south.
The shortest route and the quickest route are not always the same.
Why Gatwick Becomes More Unpredictable After Heathrow
The main difference between Heathrow and Gatwick begins once the journey continues beyond the Heathrow area.
Instead of leaving the motorway network for Heathrow, the car remains on the M25 around its western and southern sections.
That creates much greater exposure to changing motorway conditions.
One section we pay particular attention to is around M25 Junction 10 and the A3, where traffic can become heavy. Conditions can also change again further around the southern M25 before reaching the M23.
A journey can therefore move perfectly well through Long Crendon, Thame and the M40, only to lose time later.
This is why we consider the route as a complete journey rather than simply trying to reach the motorway as quickly as possible.
____
The Final Approach to Gatwick Airport
The normal motorway approach continues from the M25 onto the M23, leaving at Junction 9 for Gatwick and then following the airport approach towards Junction 9a, where traffic separates for the North and South Terminals.
Gatwick has two passenger terminals:
North Terminal
South Terminal
We confirm your terminal before travel so the driver is heading to the correct airport area rather than treating Gatwick as one single destination.
For departures, passengers are taken to the appropriate terminal drop-off area.
For return collections, private-hire pickup and Meet & Greet arrangements use the appropriate airport parking areas, so these are considered when your quotation is prepared.
Our wider 👉 Gatwick Airport Transfers service covers both North and South Terminal.

Gatwick Airport to Long Crendon
The return journey needs different planning because the collection follows your flight rather than a fixed village pickup time.
We monitor your inbound flight and adjust the collection around the actual arrival. There is no waiting charge simply because your flight itself is delayed.
After landing, passengers may still need time for passport control where applicable, baggage reclaim and getting through the terminal.
Meet & Greet can be arranged if you would prefer your driver to meet you inside the terminal. This can be particularly useful after long-haul travel, when travelling with children or when several cases need to be managed.
Before leaving Gatwick, we check the roads again.
Conditions on the M23 and M25 may be completely different from those that applied earlier in the day, so the route back to Long Crendon is planned around what is actually happening at the time.
____
How Much Does a Long Crendon to Gatwick Airport Taxi Cost?
We provide a personalised quotation rather than one generic Long Crendon to Gatwick fare.
The price depends on the date and time of travel, exact pickup address, Gatwick terminal, passenger numbers, luggage and vehicle required.
An outbound airport drop-off is also different from an inbound collection involving parking or Meet & Greet, so the quotation needs to reflect the service actually being booked.
If you’re comparing Long Crendon to Gatwick airport taxi prices, check what is included rather than comparing the headline figure alone.
The agreed price is confirmed before travel, so you know what has been arranged before the journey begins.

Choosing the Right Vehicle for Gatwick
Gatwick is often used for family holidays and longer international trips, where luggage can be just as important as passenger numbers.
Our executive fleet includes Mercedes E-Class, S-Class, V-Class and Vito vehicles.
An executive saloon can suit an individual traveller, couple or smaller party with suitable luggage.
Families and larger groups travelling with several full-size cases, cabin bags, pushchairs or other bulky items may need a V-Class or Vito.
A vehicle can have enough seats without having enough space for the luggage.
Tell us what you’re travelling with when requesting your quotation and we’ll match the vehicle to the booking before collection.
